This is my final year capstone project which was conducted with a group of 5 other mechanical engineering students. The goal was to create a robotic fencing system capable of human-level dynamic manipulation for use as an interactive training partner.
I pitched this project to the capstone coordinators as it was a long time goal of mine to create some sort of robotic fencing partner. In the end, the robot demonstrated the human-level athletic performance we set out to achieve, and we showed its effectiveness and features over the course of a series of demos.
The system features:
A 3-DoF robotic wrist with high power brushless actuators
A realistic dummy
A custom teleoperation controller for real-time control
A custom visualizer and interface to create robot trajectories
Out of 26 teams, we won the Gorlov Award for Innovation, which is awarded to the project which demonstrated the most innovative and creative solution throughout the capstone competition.
