Batteries were failing in the field and a tool exists from the battery manufacturer to diagnose problems. This tool requires that the alignment of the battery pins is correct or the reader will be damaged. In order for the customer support team to diagnose these problems, a jig was needed to insure that the 5 pins were properly aligned.
Design and create an alignment tool to be distributed in the field with a battery tester that insures proper alignment of battery pins.
Final battery reader jig with the device mounted
Battery inserted into the reader
Used a model of the battery and measurements from the reader to create a design in SolidWorks, made use of the existing bolts to mount the jig
First prototype was not stiff enough, added additional material and fixed bolt hole alignment
Printed final prototype and delivered to the electrical engineer
Later created more copies to distribute
The final version was distributed to customer success managers in the field to test batteries and determine a course of action.
