Create an accurately weighted insert for the soft goods team to approximate the weight/feel of the real device for fit purposes, but that does not include valuable electronic hardware.
Weighed the real actuator and compared this weight to a solidworks estimate, found they were similar
Used SolidWorks estimate of the center of gravity of the real device to create an insert filled with 1/4-20 bolts
Adjusted the distribution of weight in the design until it matched the intended center of gravity
Printed the insert on Markforged printer and tapped all of the holes
Populated the insert with bolts and installed inside a mechanical assembly made up of spare parts
Weighed the final product and determined the weight was accurate
Weighted insert prior to installation of the rest of the mechanical assembly
The weighted mechanical assembly was delivered to the apparel team and can be used to evaluate soft goods without sacrificing valuable electronics.
